Fiber as Part of a Healthy Diet

Fiber e1465179778593

Fiber is extremely important in maintaining a healthy body.  It is also helpful in preventing many forms of cancer.  Most people do not eat enough fiber each day in order to keep their bodies running smoothly.

Below are some great sources of fiber to help keep your body running at peak performance.  Eat several servings of these foods every day to keep your digestive system functioning smoothly:

1.  Whole-grain breads, cereals and crackers are an excellent source of fiber.  Eat breads and cereals made of whole wheat and rye.

2.  Broccoli is a wonderful source of fiber.  It is best to eat this raw or lightly steamed.  Either way, it is a delicious way to get your daily fiber.

3.  Spinach is an excellent source of fiber and also contains a good amount of iron.  You can use it in salads, on sandwiches or any way you choose.  Just make sure to eat lots of it for your health.

4.  Almonds are also very rich in fiber.  They contain the most amount of fiber out of all nuts and are delicious.  Try sprinkling them over your bowl of cereal or just eat a handful.

5.  Green beans are a great source of fiber.  They can be eaten straight out of the can, or mixed in salads and casseroles.

6.  Strawberries, apples, cherries and raspberries are great sources of fiber and they taste great cut up over your cereal or as a delicious nutritious smoothie.

7.  Brussels sprouts are another kind of leafy green vegetable that will help you get a lot of fiber in your diet.

Try to aim for at least 30 to 35 grams of fiber per day.  If you have not been eating much fiber, then you will notice a difference in how you feel by adding fiber to you diet within just a couple of weeks.  You will feel less sluggish and more energized each day.

Men that look no further than their outsides, think health
an appurtenance unto life, and quarrel with their
constitutions for being sick; but I that have examined the
parts of man, and know upon what tender filaments that
fabric hangs, do wonder that we are not always so; and
considering the thousand doors that lead to death, do thank
my God that we can die but once.

Steps to Leading a Healthy Life

Steps to a Healthy Life e1465179829679

In order to live a healthy life you must make the right choices each day.  To stay healthy, it is important that you eat the right foods and get plenty of exercise.

One of the most important meals of the day is breakfast.  By starting your day off with a nutritious healthy practice, you will find that you will have more energy and stamina to get through the day.

Each day for breakfast, it is a good idea to drink a glass of orange juice with added calcium and take a good multivitamin for your age group and gender.  There are many multivitamin choices out there, but each person has different needs, so be sure to read the labels before choosing the right one for you.

Make sure to eat a good high-fiber cereal.  This helps to ensure that you meet your daily requirements for fiber, which will keep your digestive system working right, and your colon clean.  Have a serving or two fruits or make a nice fruit smoothie with protein powder to keep your energy up.

Make sure to take some good nutritious snacks to work with you.  You could take baby carrots, celery sticks, and an apple to keep you from snacking on junk food during the day.

When you choose bread for making your sandwich for lunch, choose whole grain breads.  Instead of using mayonnaise on your sandwich, you could replace it with honey mustard, which has very little calories and no fat.

If you have a job where you sit at your desk all day, then try to figure out ways to get up and walk around every hour to keep your circulation in your legs.  You can also do stretching exercises at your desk.

When you take your lunch break, try to walk for 10 to 15 minutes after lunch.  Before going back to work, why not do a few breathing exercises to help you relieve stress and clear your mind?

Take time each day to do something that you enjoy.  Even if you only have 10 minutes to spare, doing something that you enjoy each day will help to reduce stress and make you feel better all around.

Make sure that you get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night.  Your body needs to be recharged in order to keep going.  Lack of sleep can cause you to feel stressed and tired during the day, which makes it hard to feel good.

it defend itself, it will do more than if you paralyze it
by encumbering it with remedies.

The Benefits of Fish Oil For Your Health

Benefits of Fish Oil e1465179881313

Fish oil has many benefits for your health.  Most people think that they must avoid all types of oils and fats.  The truth is that there are good fats and bad fats. Avoiding all oils and fats can actually be detrimental to your health.

Essential fatty acids (EFA) are a must-have for your daily diet.  Essential fatty acids include Omega-6 and Omega-3.  Studies have revealed that too much Omega-6 EFA can lead to blood clotting, tumor growth and inflammation.  On the other hand, Omega-3 has been known to help lessen your chances of hypertension, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and certain kinds of cancer.  Omega-6 can be found in vegetable oils including soy oil and corn oil, which contain high amounts of linoleic acid.  Omega-3 is found in marine, walnut and flaxseed oils.

Fish oil has been shown in some studies to combat asthma.  The study revealed that people who ate more fish were less prone to asthmatic attacks and could breathe easier.  If you are not fond of fish, then you can purchase many excellent Omega-3 supplements.  Check with your doctor to find out the right amount of fish oil or Omega-3 supplement to take for your health and age.

If you want to have a strong healthy heart and energy that last you throughout the years, then Omega-3 is a supplement you do not want to ignore.

Look and Feel Younger with Antioxidants!

Antioxidants e1465180055967

I’ll be posting short articles related to improving our physical and emotional well-being weekly.  Please join me on this journey to total health & happiness, and please feel free to share your thoughts.

Today, I’ll be talking about antioxidants.  If you would like to look and feel younger, then keep your diet rich in antioxidants.  Antioxidants help to fight free radicals in your body.  Free radicals are the oxgen fragments that attack and cause damage to life-sustaining proteins, cell genetic codes, and cell membranes of your body.  Antioxidants help to prevent against premature aging and diseases.  It also protects your brain and nervous system.

You will find the greatest amount of antioxidants in fruits and vegetables.  Look for fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin E, vitamin C, beta-carotene and selenium.  Make sure to eat plenty of citrus fruits, strawberries, potatoes, raw cabbage, green peppers, and leafy green vegetables which are rich in vitamin C.   Vitamin E also helps delay your aging process. Be sure to add whole grains, leafy green vegetables, fish oil, wheat germ, seeds, vegetable oil, and nuts to your diet.

You also want to eat plenty of foods rich in beta-carotene including carrots, cantaloupe, apricots, kale, tomatoes, peaches, and sweet potatoes. Selenium is also an important mineral because it helps fight cell damage and is known to prevent cancer.

Foods that are high in selenium include fish, grains, red meat, eggs, garlic, chicken, and shellfish. If you are going to take, a selenium supplement be sure to check with your doctor, as it can be toxic if taken in to large of a dose. Your doctor can tell you what your body needs in order to stay healthy.

Antiaging nutrients that come from plants are called photochemical and phytonutrients. These nutrients are very beneficial to your skin.

Since our body absorbs and processes nutrients less efficiently as we age, women should increase their calcium intake in order to prevent osteoporosis. Men should increase their vitamin C and vitamin E intake to help protect against prostate cancer.

If you are unable to eat enough food to get the minimum daily at requirements for these antioxidants, it is advisable that you take a nutritional supplement to make sure that your body will age gracefully.
